2011 Tōhoku Earthquake: A Touching Tribute by RADWIMPS

Today marks a decade since the magnitude 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Japan that triggered a devastating tsunami and caused the second worst nuclear power plant disaster in history. Hundreds of thousands were displaced from their homes, and an estimated 20,000 lives were lost.

The Japanese band RADWIMPS published a touching tribute today, displaying photos of the crumbling remains of the disaster and dwelling on the void left behind by those no longer with us. As always, RADWIMPS vocals and instrumentation are beautiful and emotionally poignant. Give "I Want To See You" ("あいたい") a listen:

Here's a rough translation of the lyrics (special thanks to users "Dev. 新海 でしろ" and "Mont Blanc"):

I want to see you, I want to see you, I want to see you,
I want to see you, I want to see you,
I want to talk with you, I want to touch you,
I want to hold you in my arms, I want to keep looking at you.
Even now I have no feeling stronger than these.

I am living in a world without you.
Sometimes I try to smile or distract myself with something.

It's been 10 years, and I could never find a reason why you had to go.
Sometimes I ponder, The oxygen you were supposed to breathe,
I wonder... Where it is wandering now, and in whom is it living now?
I know, I know it's silly. There's no reason to think such things.

I want to see you, I want to see you, I want to see you,
I want to see you, I want to see you,
I want to hear you, I want to caress you,
I want to get angry with you, I want to smell you again,
Even now I have no feeling stronger than these.

If you were here, what would you say? What would you do?
I wish I had recorded you at least once saying, "I'm alright."

I've spent 10 years piling up the reasons why you should still be here.
The Earth got a bit lighter when you were gone.
Why am I still here, still breathing? Why!?
I know, I know it's silly. I know you are still here with me.

I thought about asking for a miracle so I could see you again,
but
I'm sure that's impossible.
I already used one when I found you for the first time.

I want to see you, I want to see you, I want to see you,
I want to see you, I want to see you,
I want to talk with you, I want to touch you,
I want to hold you in my arms, I want to keep looking at you.
Even now there is no feeling in the world stronger than these.
